Digitalizing
Røde Kors Genbrug

Product Architecture & UX/UI Design

Expanding the digital footprint from 5 to 47 active stores on the e-commerce platform.

The Challenge

Digital adoption among non digital natives.

How do you introduce new tech to a volunteer workforce that isn't digitally native? In a major non-profit, you can’t just order people to use a new system. Instead of mandating change, we had to earn it. By focusing on empathy and stripping away unnecessary complexity, we built tools that were so straightforward, volunteers actively wanted to adopt them into their fast-paced routines.

Project 01

From static handbook to live digital platform

Key JobsInformation Architecture

Migrated and redesigned a heavy, static PDF handbook into a clean, searchable intranet layout. The goal was: get crucial operational guidelines, regulations, and daily store routines out of buried documents and into the hands of the volunteers. By making the information instantly accessible, we cut down search times and kept over 260 stores across the country aligned.

Project 02

E-commerce product onboarding app

Key JobsUI/UX Design

Worked on the UI/UX for a custom mobile app that lets volunteers list local store donations directly onto the national e-commerce platform (rødekorsgenbrug.dk). Since many of the volunteers are elderly, the interface was tailored specifically for them using high-contrast layouts and simplified, large input fields. To make the job even easier, an AI tool was built in to help estimate pricing and manage inventory on the spot, taking the guesswork out of daily sorting routines.

Design Process & Accessibility

From wireframes to a tested, accessible interface

Moved the project from low-fidelity paper wireframes to high-fidelity Figma prototypes, using continuous user testing to catch and fix usability hurdles early on. The final UI adapts the Røde Kors Design System specifically for high-paced store environments, focusing on large touch targets and clear layouts to ensure speed and accessibility for every volunteer.

Project 03

User research & nationwide stakeholder alignment

Planned and facilitated large-scale events and annual meetings for volunteer store managers from all over Denmark. These national meetings served as a direct channel to conduct qualitative user research, map out user personas, and capture real-world workflow challenges as part of the event agenda. These forums were also vital for demonstrating the actual value of the new digital initiatives, ensuring the volunteer community understood the purpose behind the changes and willingly embraced the transition.

Project 04

Visual identity & graphic design.

Beyond digital strategy and UX, I led various graphic design tasks to ensure a unified brand experience. A primary project was the design of the official Røde Kors gift card, built to work seamlessly in both physical stores and the integrated e-commerce platform.

Result

A living platform.

A heavily used intranet hub, paired with a steady, measurable increase in stores connected to the e-commerce platform. The ultimate proof came when the volunteers themselves began spreading the word.
